Renewable and Nonrenewable Energy Sources Matrix

Renewable and non renewable energy source Matrix

A renewable energy resource is one whose stock is not fixed and can be increased as well as decreased . Africa (Uganda ) has a rich renewable energy resource base . The new and renewable energy sources include geothermal , solar , biogas , wind , Hydropower , liquid fuels and biomass

Geothermal is a renewable energy from plants and animal , which I am not using currently

The geothermal form of renewable energy source , I would consider using within the next year . Geothermal electricity is created by pumping a fluid (oil or

water ) into the Earth , allowing it to evaporate and using the hot gases vented from the earth 's crust to run HYPERLINK "http /en .wikipedia .org /wiki /Turbine " \o "Turbine " turbines linked to electrical generators . Geothermal heat from under the surface of the Earth can be used on most of the globe directly to heat and cool buildings . The present consumption of geothermal energy does not in any way threaten or diminish the quality of life for future generations consequently , it is considered a renewable energy source that 's why I decide to use in next year . It has many advantages ie an unlimited supply of energy and produces no air and water pollution and unnoticeable disadvantages i .e . best supplies limited to certain areas of the world and Start-up costs are expensive

3 renewable and 3 non-renewable energy sources in the matrix

Type of Fuel

Renewable or Non-renewable Advantages

Disadvantages Hydropower

Renewable

1 ) Africa (Uganda ) hydrological resource potential (2500MW ) gives Uganda a comparative advantage over her neighbors in the East African region in the production of relatively cheap power

2 ) It is abundant , clean and safe

3 ) It is easy to store in reservoir

4 )Offers recreational benefits like boating , fishing etc

5 ) Once the dam is built , the energy is virtually free

6 ) No waste or pollution produced

7 ) Much more reliable than wind , solar or wave power

8 ) Water can be stored above the dam ready to cope with peaks in demand

9 ) Hydroelectric power stations can increase to full power very quickly unlike other power stations

1 ) It can have significant environmental effect

2 ) By this source , people can lose their homes

3 ) It can be used only where there is water supply

4 ) Hydropower provides about 98 of the country 's utility power supply The resource however contributes to less than 2 of Africa 's (Uganda

However , many dams are also used for flood control or irrigation , so building costs can be shared

Building a large dam will flood a very large area upstream , causing problems for animals that used to live there

Finding a suitable site can be difficult - the impact on residents and the environment may be unacceptable

7 ) Water quality and quantity downstream can be affected , which can have an impact on plant life Solar energy Renewable

1 ) Uganda straddles the equator and has a very good average insulation of about 4 - 5 kWh /m /day

2 ) It has unlimited supply...
