Judaism and Christianity on Theology

In several respects , studying systems of beliefs is interesting and significant in understanding why people behave or think the way they do in relation to a supreme being and to the world . Take for instance Judaism and Christianity

Judaism is said to be the religion of the Jews . BBC .co .uk reports in Religion and Ethics that it is the original of three Abrahamic faiths ' deriving its doctrine from the Torah . The Torah is composed of the five books of Moses and is most often referred to

as Jewish scripture or the Written Law . These books document the series of historical and cultural events in the lives of the Jewish people . It also embodies various covenants God has made with the Jews through Adam Noah , Abraham , Moses , and David (Lewis 1994 :2-2 . Moreover , these books are a record of the laws by which they should live on to remain blameless before God

The Jews take special pride in their history and ancestry , and because of this , they firmly believe that they are God 's chosen people . This belief of being God 's chosen people is primarily rooted in the Abrahamic Covenant which promises Abraham that he and his descendants would be blessed and that they were to bless all nations (Lewis 1994 : 2-17

With respect to God 's persona , they are non-trinitarianists , meaning they believe that God is only one person . In other words , they are Unitarian for they hold the oneness precept in contrast to the Trinitarian teaching of Christianity . He is YHWH or the great I AM in Exodus 3 :13-15 . He is the God who created the heavens and the earth and everything in it , and in whom every Jew can have an individual and personal relationship

Christianity , on the other hand , is the religion that sprung out of Judaism it is one of the three - the third being Islam - Abrahamic faiths earlier mentioned , the original of which is Judaism . Unlike Judaism , however , it derives its doctrine not only from the books of Moses which are found in the Old Testament of the Bible , but also draws its teachings from the New Testament . These two - the Old Testament and the New Testament , compose the Holy Bible , also called God 's living word . Unlike Judaism , Christianity is not just about Abraham , Moses , and the rest of the Jewish patriarchs who are examples of great faith rather , it is also a belief and creed based on the life , teachings , and example of Jesus Christ

Christians take pride in the examples of faith demonstrated by Abraham Moses , David , and the rest of the personalities who laid their faith in God in the Old Testament . Not only that , they also esteem the disciples and the rest of Christ 's followers in the New Testament who have sacrificed their lives just to spread the Gospel to all nations
