Relationship beween juvenile drugbuse and parental behavior
Introduction Juvenile drug abuse has been readily recognized as a major issue in criminal justice programs . Since parents do not only serve as the primary care providers of juveniles but also as their primary social authority , their susceptibility to drug use and abuse . Popular research suggests that there is a indirect relationship between the perceived quality of parenting and juvenile drug abuse incidence (Foster et al 2004 Schwartz et al , 2003 . Thus , it is critical that further research be developed regrading how parental behavior is a factor in juvenile drug abuse

and how it can then be a factor in developing appropriate and effective interventions
Variables and Methodologies
The research will consider respondents ' juvenile drug users under existing reform and rehabilitation programs , correlation of parenting to their drug use as the dependent variable for study . The study will focus on juvenile drug users who have gone probationary status and are under partial state supervision whose parents have prior convictions for substance abuse within five years of their children 's state supervision The research 's Independent and dependent variables will be family history of drug abuse and juvenile drug users perceived correlation between the parental behavior they were exposed to respectively
The independent variables of the research will be drug abuse history of respective family units which will also be primarily be used to identify study participants . As the research independent variable , it will focus the study on populations whose social learning to the use of drugs was developed through their parents ' example . The respondents ' association with parental behavior and their subsequent use and abuse of drugs dependent variables of the study , will be assessed through secondary data available in peer-reviewed publications . The variable will then be used primarily in determining the correlation of parenting and their drug abuse behavior
Challenges
In the study developed by Ashford (2006 , he cites the development of family drug courts (FDC ) as one of the major indications of the recognition of the significance of family-based relationships in juvenile drug abuse issues . Developed in the 1990 's the program has been sustained in many US states but has not evolved significantly from its original inception . Though this may not necessarily indicate a deficiency in current programs , his opinion is that new research particularly impact assessment evaluations , are becoming more urgent . At the same time , how parenting can incite the drug abuse has to further quantified and qualified , for example , do parents who are also drug abusers motivate their children to the behavior more than parents who are not drug abusers but do not control their children 's access to illegal substances
In a similar manner , researches have pointed out that though there has been general acceptance of juvenile drug abuse as a precursor to delinquency , crime and victimization , there are no direct efforts to address the precursor of substance abuse behavior (Feldstein Ginsburg 2006 Lindsey et al , 2004 . Instead , even specialized efforts such as that of the FDC are reactive rather than responsive to current social...
