Living each day with fear , unhappiness and without peace of mind was an experience that had been haunting and taunting me as soon as I joined Iowa State University for my Mechanical Engineering Degree . My life had changed all over a sudden with a new experience in a new environment that was not such conducive but with discrimination . It seemed I was extremely different from the other students who had joined the campus at the same time with me and to express better I looked a stranger in the

Every passing hour , day and week I felt uncomfortable with the discriminating stares , like the stares were not enough , the constant backbiting and the negative chatter many a times that related to my sexual orientation . Each day , I could wish to stay in my room for my safety . For me fear was the of the day . My studies and living in this environment has never been enjoyable . As days and months passed , my studies got from worse to worst . My pleasure to study Mechanical Engineering as my academic major to my father took a toll on me My Dad was a Mechanical Engineer by profession and it was his dream to see me one day I become an Engineer like him in pursuit of his footsteps .
