established with a purpose to provide care for the sick , such s were the Nursing for Ministries by the patron saint of nurses Camillus De Lellis and the of Deaconess by Theodor Fliedner , who establish the nursing school Kaiserworth in Germany By 18th century , as new worlds were discovered , new illnesses also surfaced . And with a low standard of care , and with the provision of care given to the prostitutes and female prisoners , the little acceptance of nursing greatly hampered care of the sick It was only in the Crimean War , that a desperate need for trained nurses arises . One of the proponent of Modern nursing , Florence Nightingale , a graduate of Kaiserworth , answered the call . With her knowledge , several objectives came into view such as training of nurses , a standard for nursing care , theories and schools of nursing was created . It was in her time that the prestige of the nursing profession came into view . Thus setting a platform for a modernize field of care and a new role for women in the world II . Nature of the Work Registered Nurses , is a licensed member of the health care sector that looks at the patient at a holistic perspective . A registered nurse , needs to have accomplished any of the three nursing program as stated by the nursing board to qualify a seat in the nursing licensure exam . In the event that the candidate pass , a license and a title of registered nurse is given to her / him which entitles the candidate to work in any nursing setting he / she is interested

Responsibilities 1 . Responsible in observing , assessing , and to record symptoms and progress of the patient 2 . They are the one who are to give medications and foster rehabilitation 3 . Assist physician on surgeries and diagnostic procedures 4 . Educate patient and their family members on the prevention and several nursing implications that will foster good health .Categories of Nursing Practice 1 . Institutional Nursing- this is what mostly call as Hospital Nursing . Hospital based nursing is the largest group and the one who widely needed nurses . The responsibilities here are bedside care , treatments , progress reports and to carry out medical regimens 2 . Occupational Health Nursing , or Industrial nursing . The responsibilities are to check for the safety of the employees on a certain site , to follow up physical examination , consultation and to provide care and first aid 3 . Public Health nursing , these are the one who works for the government , schools , clinics , military and communities . Their main focus is preventive care , health promotion and health programs 4 . Private Practioner . these are the one who provide services at home . They are basically needed by terminally ill patient , geriatrics and those who are in for rehabilitation Division by Specialty 1 . Work setting or type of treatment . It involves the treatment to be done to the patient . Examples were Hollistic nursing , wherien nurses delves on acupuncture , massage and aroma therapy Emergency or trauma nursing . Works in the emergency department or critical care wards Perianesthesia nurses . Works in the preoperative and postoperative care for patients undergoing surgery . 2 . Disease , ailment or condition . It focuses on the specific disease or problem of the patient . Examples are Psychiatric nursing . Delves into mental , behavioral and developmental aspect of the patient Oncology nursing . Focuses on the care for cancer patients Genetic nurses . Provides early detection and treatment for patients with genetic dis Communicable disease nursing . Focuses on the prevention , care and treatment of patients with communicable diseases

3 . Organ or body system . Focuses per body system . Examples are Nephrology nurses . Delves into kidney illnesses and treatments Respiratory nurses . Delves into airway and breathing dis Cardiac nurses . Treats patient with Coronary heart disease and other vascular related diss

4 . Population . Focuses on a specific segment of the population . Examples are Neonatal . It delves on care of newborns Pediatrics . It focuses on the care and treatment of children and adolescent Geriatrics . Provides care to the adult and elderly population

III . Job Outlook Educational Pathways . To be able to become a registered nurse one must first complete any of the three nursing program to be eligible for the licensure examination 1 . Bachelor of Science in Nursing . This is a four year course offered at universities and colleges . This caters more on independent nursing roles , management and leadership skills 2 . Associate degree in Nursing . A 2 to 3 year course that are offered by community and junior colleges 3 . Hospital Diploma . Diploma programs administered in hospitals takes about 3 years , most diploma schools are even affiliated with junior colleges that gives several sciences

B . Training . Nursing programs includes hospital and classroom setting in education . It involves the study of anatomy and physiology , Nursing fundamentals , psychology , nutrition and other developmental care . The hospital shift are also required and a specific duration of hours must be completed for a program to be finished Employment . With over 2 .4 million jobs were open last August of 2006 as stated by U .S Department of Labor . Market share for this position is very high in relation to growing number of retiring baby boomers . It is also projected that employment of nurses will grow faster than any other occupation through 2014 . Other field of nursing were also growing in trend such as private practice in home healthcare and in nurse educators Earnings . Conclusion In the field of heath care its not only the man with the white suit that matters but also the lady with the white cap . The field of nursing has grown tremendously from its humble beginnings . And indeed the insurmountable call for nurses is apparent in this day and age . With different avenues for education , specialization and career advancement , nursing is one of the most notable profession in the health care sector , dealing not only with one aspect of care , this field takes on a more holistic view . Acting as a patient advocate , change agent , counselor , and educator . The roles of a nurse never ends with a patients discharge . The heavy load of promotion and prevention surpasses the definitive timeline of one 's career
