Theories , concepts , and strategies are very important ways in to understand and effectively apply a particular subject matter . However its true essence is seen in the means by which it could help and benefit people in their everyday affairs . This idea is proven to be true in terms of aiding students when it comes to their process of learning . In line with this , the benefit that could be gain in

having the knowledge of the terms mentioned above could also be helpful to those students who have special needs . Students with learning disabilities have needs that should be given due attention and should be addressed properly . In doing so , educators must apply various theories , concepts and strategies in to sustain the kind of teaching that these special students require

During the first week , I have given particular attention with a student that has Dyscalculia . Students with dyscalculia suffer from life-long learning disabilities that involves math . This kind of disability is further worsened with other learning deficiencies like skills in visual and spatial relationship (National Center for Learning Disabilities 2008 . As such , I realized the benefits of taking this course based upon its effects upon students who have learning disabilities

Participating in this course enable me to look at teaching in a different light . Being a teacher is indeed a noble profession because having this kind of duty does not only entails merely educating students but it also requires having a sense of concern and understanding for their every need . Encountering a student with dyscalculia made me realize that a teacher should also be like a student . A teacher should also be a student , in a sense that he or she should continuously learn and should never stop in studying and exploring new things . This is should be the case for teachers to be able to adapt to the challenges that they will encounter in the teaching profession . If teachers were not well aware of the various developments in the field of education as well as in other related areas that affect their teaching then it would be difficult for them to address the needs of their students

Having the necessary knowledge is indeed very beneficial in teaching various kinds of students . Nevertheless , application and practice of the theories and concepts that a teacher learned is still the most important part . Teachers should also know how to properly implement their knowledge based upon the situation of every student . Moreover , teachers should also have the necessary skills in interacting with other people especially with the parents of their students . This kind of skill is very important in dealing with the concerns that students have , more so if it involves collaborating with different people
