Within the past decade , there has been an increasing interest in the similarities between different types of addictive behavior . One problem that is central to many such types of behavior is the great difficulty that people experience in trying to escape from their addiction . Addicts are more often than not a deliberate actor and decision-maker in their own recidivism . These experiments usually have little impact on mental health .
