Reading Analysis
In the article entitled , A Threat Worse Than Terror ' Fareed Zakaria , cites that the greatest danger that the United States may face in the future is from a flu pandemic . The danger does not come from insurgents or terrorists who live overseas but instead may come from a microscopic organism that originated from birds . The mutation of the bird flu virus is the greatest threat that the United States government may ever face . If , as the author argues , the flu is able to make the leap from directly from the human host into

other human beings , the disaster will be of catastrophic proportions . The only answer to this problem lies in the hands of the government , according to Fareed Zakaria . More funding should go into research and development of the cure for this flu . This is a global problem and hardly the problem of one government alone
The argument presented by Fareed Zakaria is indeed a very sound argument but it suffers from a few oversimplifications . Firstly , the threat that bird flu poses to the entirety of humanity is indeed a very dire one . Given that it has no proven cure yet and that travel has been made easier through technological advancements over the years , a virus such as this could infect the whole world in a matter of weeks or even days . Seeing that it chooses no race , color or creed , the effects of this virus can certainly be disastrous , if not fatal to the entire human race . As such , the author argues that governments should work together to find a cure for this potential threat and maybe even divert some of the funds used to combat insurgents to find a cure for the unseen but deadly foe named the bird flu virus
It is noble to aspire for the governments of the world to lay down their arms and instead work together for the benefit of mankind . Yet as time has shown , that time has not yet arrived . Maybe the world does need this flu virus to knock some sense into the mind of world leaders Human beings are only capable of fighting foes that are visible but materialized
