Abstract

There are sundry factors that come into consideration in an attempt to realize effective learning programs for both the older struggling readers and the younger struggling readers . This is because , both the personality and characteristics of the two groups differ , yet they have to be taken into consideration when crafting up effective learning programs for the two groups

This therefore seeks to analyze the difference between older struggling readers and the younger struggling readers by

contrasting their learning capabilities and their psychological predispositions . The dominant aim in this undertaking is to come up with an effective learning program that will be instrumental in improving the academic standards for both the older struggling readers and the younger struggling readers

Older struggling readers exhibit greater potential in learning in the sense that although being less proficient learners and readers , yet the same have the ability to use their language skills to infer and determine the meaning and use of a word . To this effect , these readers with lower learning proficiencies have always displayed the ability to use highly complex sentences to come up with the meanings of the unknown words , and at the same time , being able to chain units of ideas into one coherent concept . Younger struggling students on the other hand initially portray lesser potentiality , due to the fact that this group still has a small repository of knowledge that can be related to other facts that are being learned

Given that this group is more mature and has a higher possibility of having come to terms with the benefits of learning , older struggling students may take to make efforts to abate their limitations , or take to catch up with the other conventional students by seeking to carry out extra readings . Compared to the older counterpart , the younger struggling readers are always known to read only to get the task done this mostly done in to escape punishment or inconveniences that may set in as a result of not having completed the assigned work

In cases where the older struggling students encounter boredom , there are attempts to rectify the situation by this group , by seeking other alternatives to learning . For instance , individuals in this group may take to asking questions or having group discussions with other students . This type of reader is always likely to give up reading when this undertaking gets so laborious , or when the actual process of reading sounds monotonous

Although being vulnerable to embarrassments , this group tends to ask questions in the course of having missed a point . Psychologists base this type of situation on two premises . The first reason that is posed by psychologists is that this group is more mature , and therefore knows well enough what it wants ( in this sense , it does not let cases of embarrassment stand in the way of acquiring knowledge .
