Men are endowed with an ability to think , therefore making humans distinct from other creation of God . An individual is oriented to weighed things first before making any action , thus preventing him in committing mistakes . This capability of men is already with him since the dawn of history and for this reason , rational thinking skills was being subjected into analysis and studies , thus leading them in classifying the said characteristic . Rationality was being identified under two types the substantive rationality and the instrumental rationality

consequences of our deeds is part of being rational , therefore rationality is being identified with ethics and decision making behavior , and thus it is categorized base on these two elements . Both types involved manner in doing an action but differ in approach on how they typify things

Substantive rationality is defined as qualitative or transcendental purposes and ultimate values (Zafirovski , 2003 . A type which give importance to ethics or standard norms when it comes to decision making moreover it features pattern of probable course pattern into traditions and customs of certain principles thus following a certain criteria . The action is driven by morals more than any aspect of the situations

On the other hand instrumental rationalism is the materialistic purposes utility , profit or money and other economic maxim (Zafirovski , 2003 .
