Racism:Before, During, and After the Turn of the Century

Racism has been in the world ever since the inception of time . In America , when Dutch traitors first came to New York in 1624 and pushed the Native Americans from their land through questionable deals and hollow promises , racism and prejudice began in America . Racism is not new to the world . Racism the discrimination and exploitation of the majority over the minority had been with the world , through every century and with every country and races . One of the reasons that America has more problems with racism is because it is the most

diverse The experiment of America is to find out if all the peoples of the world can come to one single country and by their merit and not their lineage can rise as high in society as their merits would allow . This is the promise of America even though there are millions of instances in which this was not allowed because of an individual 's race . This unfortunately , is also the story of America . Many of the civil rights leaders of today would state that despite the lingering of racism America has come a long way . This is true and any student of American history can verify such an assertion . From a time in which four millions African Americans were slaves for another in which their labor their bodies , families and time were not their own , to our present day when the first viable African American Presidential candidate is attempting to win the highest office in the land . Yes , America has come a long way . However , as it is the case with any important event in history , not just American history , such things did not happen overnight . A careful study of the prolonged history of racism in this country is needed to understand how far America has truly come . America in 1865 was drastically different than the America in 1918 . A country that was basically agriculture and a country of more than 85 million people in which the great cities of today , were coming into their golden age . The Industrial Age was upon us and after victory in the First World War America was on its way to becoming one of the supreme powers in the world . It was an age of prosperity for many Americans . However , African Americans , in many ways found themselves in a sort of civil rights limbo . Under the law , they were not slaves and were free . However , under the law as well , African Americans were treated as second class citizens . Also , at this time Native Americans were losing their lands at an exponential rate and Asians , mostly the Chinese , were not even allowed into the country until 1942 and even then , only 105 was the yearly quota . Millions of people every year , attempt to come to America in to enjoy the prosperity and freedom that this country offers . There is no country in the world like America . However , there are few countries that have struggled with racism to the same degree...
