Racial Profiling by the Police Racial profiling among police continues to be rampant in the United States , Europe and across the world . This continued prejudice with regards to race and culture poses a problem for the society since it is in the hands of authorities (police ) to exercise the law /s of a certain area or region . Setting the line between enforcing the law and discrimination remains to be subjective to the hands of the authorities and at the same time a violation or inappropriate conduct of a police officer is drawn

by the victim or a violator . Thus , setting a standardized method in drawing the line between apprehending in pursuant of a violation and racial profiling must be done in to prevent continued abuses
Since the abolition of slavery in the United States in 1865 with the amendment of its constitution , many Black Americans have been trying to coexist and interact with its counterparts . However , still many Americans continue to practice biases against the Black Americans . As time passes , the mentality for such eases and there had been improvements . On the other hand , continued efforts by persons , civic groups , and organizations to further subdue the existing conflicts when it comes to color and culture . From the speeches of Martin Luther King Jr . to the different organizations that tackle such endeavors , each of them have an aim at hand equal opportunity and respect
However , as the has mentioned , prejudice against color , race ethnicity , and religion do continue to exist . An example of this is racial profiling among members of the police force . The will try to discuss and elaborate the issues concerning racial profiling among police officers . The first section of the will discuss about the meaning and definition of racial profiling . The next section will discuss about the legality of such practice among members of the police and society . The will try to cite several cases wherein there is a clear case of racial profiling . The conclusion will tackle about the different alternative ways of solving the issue

Racial profiling by definition is the practice of law enforcers against individuals not because they have committed a violation or a crime but on the basis of their culture , race , religion , and ethnicity (American Civil Liberties Union , 2005 ) This includes the use of any equipment actions made by police authorities and usage of terms such as driving while black (DWB (American Civil Liberties Union , 2005 ) Many critics of racial profiling say that the large number of criminals from the minorities is often brought about due to racial profiling by local authorities (Wikipedia , 2006

In the United States , the Black Americans responsible for committing crimes has reached to 30 in July 2005 (Wikipedia , 2006 ) It is startling to see however that the White and Caucasian races make up of the remaining 70 of the remaining violations and crimes but still the blame has been placed on Black Americans (Wikipedia , 2006
