Race and gender
Question 4 For a very long time there has been marriage that crosses ethnic lines More recently in our history of the United States , the number of marriages that occur that involve two different nationalities has increased to a large degree . This can be explained from a sociological perspective White , Latinos and Asian-Americans are statistically intermarrying to a greater extent than African Americans . Embracing new culture is happening more often , and sometimes people fall in love with another from a different background . The variety and differences could be what is

drawing many people to join a new `race ' through marriage . It keeps things from getting boring , and it is more socially acceptable than it has been in the past
The intense racism and segregation of the past is not completely out of the picture . We have come a long way in developing a tolerance for differences , but there is still a great deal of the misconception that we are of different `races ' and therefore some are superior . Although many whites have become more open to the idea of marriage to people of other cultures , there is a resistance within the black community to accept intermarriage . It is often seen as a `selling out ' or someone trying to `take the good black men away ' There is a portion of the African American community that is simply insulted by the idea of `going outside your race ' for marriage . The social dynamics of the nation have been like a layer cake with the `whiter ' pieces on top and the `darker pieces on the bottom . Too many African Americans , to intermarry is to consider yourself `better than ' your own race

I think one of the reasons is because of the anger many African American women feel when a white woman `steals ' another good black man The media still portrays the white , skinny female as the idea beauty and to many African American women it is a competition and a challenge to `keep their black men
More Asian American women are going for white men than white women are going for Asian American men . It could possibly have something to do with the fact that in much of Asian culture , the men are in control and expect the women to be silent . In general there is a greater pressure on the women to be a certain way and meet expectations . Being Asian American , these women probably turn to white men for a freedom from these pressures . The American woman has a strong an independent image that is desirable , and staying within the Asian culture might make these women feel that they are missing out
I can only speculate about other forms of intermarriage . I would expect that more Latinos and African Americans would mix than Latinos and whites because of the aforementioned layer cake simile . Both Latinos and African Americans being minorities , there is probably less resistance within those communities because...
