of German soldiers experience during the war . It details the account of Paul Baumer and his companions who are in the war . This story details the atrocities that occur during the war and the effect that it has on the young protagonist and his friends . While it takes a departure from other books of this genre by not going into detail about the horrors of the war , it instead takes a very straightforward approach that shows how the war has affected the minds and hearts of men

This change is shown through the various experiences that Paul and his friends endure . Day after day , they are exposed to constant bombardment on the front lines .
