Question 4
QUESTION 4 Discuss at least two new areas of science and technology in which feminist scholars are challenging dominant assumptions In technology , computer technology and the internet as deemed as a way to build communication gaps among people from all over the globe . More than often , these technological innovations are regarded as a way to promote equality in terms of race , gender , social class , religion , and culture . Generally , most people note that everyone is deemed equal in the virtual world However , some feminist scholars such as Margaret Lowe Benston and Gill

br Kirkup claim that computer technology is gendered . They point that based on their studies , women who wanted to use computers should assume a masculine perspectives and traits in to fully maximize the features of computers . Moreover , they note that because of the dependency of most companies on information technology , women who are not involved with computer-related jobs became isolated . As such computers also became a tool to promote gender discrimination
Aside from computer technology , another sector in which feminist scholars challenged dominant claims is the field of biology . Emily Martin noted that most biology texts and books presented the body as a tool subjugated by control . She pointed out that this notion of a control-focused body fails to make people realize that bodily functions do not just abide by their supposed day-to-day functions . Rather , the body responds to change and dynamism . For example , she notes that while the control-concept just promotes the thought that the immune system as an automated component that defends the body the dynamic view holds that the immune system can be developed and transformed into a friendly ally that responds to the external challenges that a person faces . This new view provides people with empowerment as they regard their body 's flexibility
