The first one is the need for a therapists ' humanistic view of the client . The humanistic view focuses on the individual as unique . Moreover , it requires psychology to look into the unique traits of individuals that are real , such as feelings and emotions . This humanistic perspective is closely related to Abraham Maslow 's theory on the hierarchy of needs , which reveals that individuals are constantly in search of things that

would give them self-fulfillment , and that self-fulfillment is achieved once all the former and least complex needs are achieved . The client-therapist relationship should be based on this view because it considers the part of individuals that is human , which allows clients to become comfortable as they feel that their needs as human beings are being regarded or considered . It also fosters a relaxed and trusting relationship between the client and the therapist , because the client feels and believes his
Another factor that influences the client-therapist relationship is the quality of the relationship , based on positive regard which Rogers believed to play a major role on propelling the process of therapy and in the end result to desirable changes in the behavior and the character of the client . A therapist , being a trusted individual by the client should exhibit unconditional positive regard in to influence the client 's realization of his dreams and his potential . Conditional positive regard includes feelings of love , affection , and compassion trust and respect , which are exhibited by people who share intimate relationships with the client . Conditional positive regard should come from the client 's parents , family , friends , etc . Unconditional positive regard , which should be exhibited by the therapist , includes feelings of love , affection , and compassion , trust and respect , from people who do not share the same intimate relationship with the client . Unconditional positive regard enables people to look into themselves , believe in what they can do and can become , and influence a desirable self-concept
I partly agree with the concept of unconditional positive regard because as based on experience , if people who I am not intimately related with exhibit love and compassion , and trust and respect toward me , I learn to look at myself closely and realize what other people see in me that causes them to treat me in such a way although they do not know me that well . Through introspection , I begin to uncover my innermost desirable traits and believe that there is something good in me , that I can change , that I can do something good to other people and the society because I exhibit traits and characteristics that are desirable . Although this might be the case , I do not believe entirely in the theory because it is not highly influential as compared to the impact of people who are closest to a person
