The first thing that should be understood is that as a Christian counselor , the first thing to ensure is that you are personally in tune with God . This is because you can not give what you don 't have Therefore , I think the fact should initially be established that you can not confront sin if you are in sin yourself . It will just be the case of someone in the ditch trying to help another in the ditch . Once this is established then you can go on in the counseling process p

In Christian counseling one must be very careful and sensitive . The counselor should be extremely watchful and not push the person that came for counseling . For a person to come for counseling mean that the person knows something somewhere is not just right . The person knows that they need help and want to talk to someone . Therefore there is a time to listen , a time to talk and a time to confront . However , Christian counseling is never about condemnation but freedom and liberation from the holds of the devil , demonic oppression and sin

In this case , the counselor should be sensitive to know if the person that came for counseling is prepared to go deep and talk about their deepest secrets . This is when the person has a level of trust in you and the conversation is open and honest . In the real sense , only God convicts a man of his sins all we can do is to guide them . However depending on the situation , we can make the person ruminate over his sin by being silent , questioning the person , using direct censure which is on last resort . Generally , confrontation is good when the person has developed confidence in you and trusts you . One must be careful of directly hitting the person with words because instead of them being liberated from that sin , they may end up being confused , condemned and disappointed in themselves

The Bible warns us of Judging . As a Christian counselor , we must understand that God has not told us to condemn the sinner but through the power of confession can lead them back to Christ
