Psychoanalytic theory
The psychoanalytic theory is weird for some reasons because it has very strong sexual innuendos and maybe this is what caused the early aversion to the theory . Despite that , psychoanalysis gained momentum in the time when psychological theories were few . What interests me most about psychoanalytic theory is how Freud was able to identify the psychological issues that develops and manifests itself in adulthood based on the psychosexual stages of development (Craig Dunn , 2007 For example , Freud said that if the infant becomes fixated in the oral stage , as an adult , the

individual engages in behaviors that derive pleasure from one 's mouth like smoking , eating , chewing gum , and talking among others . If the child has a traumatic experience in toilet training , then the adult has a tendency to become anal-retentive and may hoard things , and derive pleasure from not giving or sharing with others . Freud also was able to explain how homosexuality develops in his most controversial Oedipus complex . At first , it is difficult to follow and understand but once you are able to understand it , one gets the feeling that it does make sense
In my own experience , I had been able to observe how children develop and now that I think about Freud and his theories , everything makes sense to me . One of my nieces was unfortunate to have a very young mother who had her in her teens . Thus , she struggled with motherhood and was not able to care and provide the needs of my niece...
