The Legalization of Prostitution

That prostitution should be legalized is an argument that has been heard again and again . But surprisingly , no one claims that prostitution is morally or ethical correct . How can it be that a practice that the vast majority considers to be contrary to proper social conduct has been a candidate for administrative sanction for so long ? Why would we want to legalize something that we ourselves would not consider doing or would not want our children to do ? This is the crux of the prostitution debate - a legal

conundrum which is a moral paradox . This argues that prostitution should be legalized in the United States of America but it is not an ethical encouragement for prostitution . Far from it , we shall see that the arguments for legalization of prostitution are based on truly humanitarian grounds as the only viable way to prevent the ruthless exploitation of helpless women , their brutalization and to check the spread of venereal diseases

These very same considerations have led many countries to experiment with this idea in varying forms . Netherland and Germany have sanctioned licenses for brothels . In USA itself , prostitution is legal in the state of Nevada . But the success of these countries in achieving their goals is highly debatable and most commonly stated arguments are based on imaginative punditry , not empirically supported facts (Buying sex safely , 1996 .
