INTRODUCTION

The prevalence of sexually transmitted diseases like acquired immune deficiency syndrome AIDS , Syphilis and Gonorrhea especially in the High School and University students is a serious social problem across the globe . Sociological changes brought about by rapid modernization in the twenty-first century has led to chronic problems like pre marital sex homosexualism and multiple partnerships in sexual life and these have greatly contributed to moral degradation and subsequent rise in STDs especially in the High School

and University students . The diseses transmission occurs due to transfusion of body fluids like blood ,semen ,vaginal secretions and breastmilk .The major modes of transmission of are sexual intercourse , contaminated needles ,maternal transmission from an infected mother via the birth canal or breastmilk This Research Study is an attempt to identify the pros and cons of sex education in High School and University students and aims to identify the effects such education has on student community . The study will help identify variables and analysis of these factors will help rectify and solve the research problem to a great extent , which in turn shall reflect on the intellectual productivity of the student community

LITERATURE REVIEW

Research studies have shown that abstinence education is the most effective way to protect teen health (Robert E . Rector , 2005 . This is attributed to the reduction in risky sexual behaviors after such education . Statistics show that by their 18th year , 6 in 10 teenage women and 7 in 10 teenage men in USA have had sexual intercourse (The Alan Guttmacher Institute , 1995 ) and a sexually active teenager not using contraception becomes pregnant within a year (The Alan Guttmacher Institute , 1994 . Approximately 950 ,000 teenage pregnancies occur each year in USA and more than 3 in 4 of the pregnancies are unintended and these pregnancies most often end in abortion (Henshaw , 1998 . Studies also show that the pregnancy rate among U .S . women aged 15-19 has declined steadily--from 117 pregnancies per 1 ,000 women in 1990 to 93 per 1 ,000 women in 1997 and it has been found that the pregnancy rate decline between 1988 and 1995 has been due to delayed onset of sexual intercourse among teenagers , use of highly effective and long-acting contraceptive methods among sexually experienced teenagers (Alan Guttmacher Institute , 1999 . Thus , a lack of accurate sex Information have been found to contribute to teenage pregnancy (Jo Ann Wentzel 2003 . Roughly 4 million new sexually transmitted disease (STD infections seem to occur among teenagers in the United States an the rates of gonorrhea and chlamydia among U .S . teenagers are extremely high as compared to other countries (Alan Guttmacher Institute , 2001
