USTDA anticipates a persistence demand for its focused funding services in these regions due to existence of the African Growth and Opportunities Act (AGOA ) and indirectly helps to increase the expansion of private sector During June 2006 , USTDA has granted 2 .27 million to sub -Saharan African states to further its economic development under the framework of WTO (Doha round ) and AGOA . These grants were granted by USA mainly to develop electricity sector in Nigeria and South Africa , to fillip transport sector of Nigeria , Common Market for Eastern and Southern

Africa (COMESA ) and Senegal and for the development of capital market in West Africa . As per USTDA , trade benefits can not be realized if the infrastructure facility is not sufficient to cater the needs of the increased trade flows . Thus USTDA grants will be of helpful to augment the volume of trade between nations and enlarge the participation of the private sector in the development program . Thus the grants reveal the significance of infrastructure facilities for a country and to benefit from WTO agreements and AGOA trade preferences
5 . ON GOING INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS IN AFRICA
Economic commission for Africa (ECA ) is pursuing various development plans for augmenting infrastructure facility in Africa
This being a lead institution and oversees the implementation of UNTACDA I and UNTACDA II . African Transport ministers in 2002 had adopted the same as a preparation as successor arrangement to UNTACDA . ECA acts as a lead promoter of the Trans- African highways Network (TAH .
