I work in the Intensive Care Unit of a teaching hospital that has been identified as one of the evidence-based practice centers in the State The hospital became a science partner three years ago and has been involved in efforts to improve quality , appropriateness and effectiveness of health care by direct involvement in research and facilitating the process of translating research findings into evidence-based practice . As evidence based practice center the hospital also provides technical assistance to

professional organizations and healthcare providers that is useful in translating the reports into tools for quality improvement and curricula that is evident-based . I have participated in research on infection control methods which has made me conscious of the potential for nosocomial infections especially among critical care patients

The research component in my work setting has helped to underline the multidisciplinary facet of healthcare delivery . Generally , critical care patients require holistic nursing especially for geriatric patients and those patients with nutritional alterations . Thus my efforts in providing nursing care to these patients have been aimed at providing holistic care drawing on nursing theory by Calista Roy .
