Production and Operations Management deals in the area where all the operational and production activities of a company , dealing in any sort of goods are transformed into outputs which meet the particular needs of the consumers who buy the goods from the market . However , it is important that distribution of these goods also falls into the area of production and operations management . Another important point in the explanation of the concerned area is that all the activities put into meeting this goal are regarded as inputs and the result that comes out of these inputs is regarded as outputs . Fig . 1 above shows the basic process of production and operations management . This process is often referred to as the Conversion Process . By conversion process it is meant that a number of different activities are aimed to be transferred to the outputs that eventually address the basic needs of the customers who go to the market to buy a particular product . There are a number of different methods by which this process of conversion is attained . This conversion process may also be referred to as production process . A few of the methods are job flow , batch , and group . There are numerous tasks are incorporated under production and operations management . Although these tasks are interlinked , they can be grouped under five major areas or heading These five are Product , Plant , Processes , Programs , and People .
