Introduction

Some people may think for granted what policing means . However , it is easier to understand first the meaning of its root word before discussing anything else in the . Policing is a verb which came from the noun , police . According to the American Heritage , Police is the governmental department charged with the regulation and control of the affairs of a community , now chiefly the department established to maintain , enforce the law , and prevent and detect crime ' In layman 's term , police is a part of our government that is in-charge in the law enforcement , and prevents and detects crimes . Another definition of from the American Heritage Dictionary is that police is a body of persons making up such a department , trained in methods of law enforcement and crime prevention and detection and authorized to maintain the peace , safety , and of the community . Based on the definitions , the first definition pertains to the government which is public policing and the second pertains to private policing because it could either be any department

Private Policing

Private Police are private citizens who are involved in the work of law enforcement , as stated in the definition crime prevention and detection and maintenance of peace safety and of the community . These people may work in a company , a non-profit institution or in a private investigating agency . Some private police investigators are people from the government . According to Gary Marx , these people work directly as consultants to the state and are being paid by the government , there are also investigators work for insurance companies and at the same time affiliated with public organizations . Public Police Officers are people working for the state .
