However sometimes their circumstances and background plays an important role , in determining how violent or non violent they can be once they are inside . Human nature is considered a set of evolved psychological adaptations to recurring problems . According to evolutionary psychology humans are inherently conditioned to mentally and physically adapt to the changes in their environment
Just as a human body is accustomed to acclimatize itself to the weather , such as sudden heat or cold and also changes in certain living conditions human mind also is flexible enough to become accustomed to the any new environment

The life at prison is completely different from life outside and most inmates are lodged inside for their first ever crime and have to make great efforts to familiarize themselves to the sudden alteration in their life style and environment . Often such changes create a change in temper and disposition . A person released after several years in prison may not be the same as when he had gone inside
He may experience a life in the prison and long months and years of confinements . A person who might not have suffered from any psychological ailment often ends up having them due to excessive distress and impairment of a normal life in prison
The separation from loved ones , a normal family atmosphere and being away from simple domesticity leaves the inmates with mental depression emotional stress , despair and lethargy
