Principles of law enforcement

A subculture , according to Dantzker (2005 ) can be defined as any ethnic regional , economic , or social group demonstrating particular behavior that may distinguish it from the rest of the society . Policing has been identified as a subculture , historically referred to as The Blue Brotherhood

Graves (1996 ) defines cynicism as an attitude of contemptuous distrust of human nature and motives . This implies that it is an action that is practiced in the

police department , that causes an antithesis of idealism , truth and justice , the very virtues that the law enforcement officers swear to uphold (Graves , 1996 . According to Pagon Lobnikar (1996 , the studies done by Anson et al (1986 ) found that cynicism is a functional subculture among the police officers . But when they leave the training college , and find that they have been betrayed in the way of carrying out the duties , for instance by the court system or receive hostility from the community , they tend to see that the code of ethics that they are supposed to uphold does not hold any reality . This leads them to hate the society they are supposed to protect hence falling victims of cynicism . In this case , they cannot uphold the values that they are required to uphold while in the force but rather they view them with a lot of contempt

Police cynicism can also be brought about because of the occupational stagnations . There are very few promotional and opportunities in the police department . This makes it impossible for those who especially have high hopes to see the job as having less incentives and job satisfaction . In the end they take it as a tedious job , which contributes to frustration , and disappointment as well as low...
