Principles of Law Enforcement

The aspect of law enforcement is established by the society to implement the laws and social regulations of a certain society over their public masses . This is mainly the legally regulated and systematic approach of the government to promote peace and among their people for the benefit and advantage of all . To implement critically this purpose , several subcategorized law enforcement units are created to enhance further their services and social functions in relation to emphasizing on the relevant issues and social aspects . The concept of jurisdiction becomes the limiting factor of the scope and authority of a certain law enforcement unit which is formally constituted by the political leader or the constitutional amendment of their society . This concept manifests to be a relevant factor in the organizational constitution of the general law enforcement body wherein each subcategorized units are arranged in a hierarchy line under the philosophy of their chain of command . The concept of jurisdiction is mainly developed as based from the scope of power and authority as classified and categorized according to the factors of locality affairs , capability and resources , and the command line . In actual implementation , some law enforcement units has wider jurisdictional authority because they have national concern while others only have local authority for more focused and attentive functions

In terms of a Federal Government such as that of the United States , the respective authorities of the law enforcement units are organized based from the authority giving by the state and federal law . Issues and legal matters that are within the state security , federal government system and of national concern are under the jurisdiction of the Federal Bureau of Investigation . On the other hand , issues and matters that are related to state courts are under the jurisdiction of the local police department . However , for issues that overlap jurisdiction boundaries , a matter of resolution is drafted wherein the cases must be coordinated or turned over to the federal law enforcement for the appropriate actions Issues or cases that have the opposite direction must also follow the drafted resolution wherein the action must be duly coordinated to the local police department that has the corresponding jurisdiction over the scenario . On an actual example , a case of murder that occurred within the state of California must be apprehended and processed by the local police department as they have the authority and responsibility over their jurisdiction . However , on occasion wherein the criminal has escaped their jurisdiction and has gone over distant state performing the same criminal offense , the case now becomes the concern of the Federal Bureau of Investigation , as the matter has not transcended to their authority . A transfer or a coordinated strategy must be drafted between the FBI and the concerned local police department for the investigation , apprehension , and appropriate legal action .
