This can be shown by paying attention to the verbal and non verbal cues , communicating an understanding on his messages , showing a desire to understand discussing what is important to her , and referring to her feelings . The counselor acts as an active responder not as passive listener , it is best appreciated by the counselee when he feels that he simply understood- not judge nor evaluated from her point of view , not from counselor 's point of view
Respect and Positive Regard
Respect is the counselor 's attitude to regard the client as a person of worth . It involves showing acceptance , caring and concern to his point of views . Respect is an essential ingredient to establish a helping relationship . The counselor should communicate effectively his respect to the client , without this , it will be very difficult for the counselor to establish rapport with the client
Everything that the client will say must be positively regarded counselor 's attitude should be nonjudgmental and non evaluative . There should be no depreciation reservation or criticism on things that the client experiences or problems Genuineness
A counselor must be honest and true . It is expressing one self naturally without artificial behaviors . He must not play role nor operate behind a professional fazade
Concreteness
Warmth
The ability of the counselor to accept the client as they are including the conviction that they have the capacity to deal constructively with the problems
Immediacy
The ability of the counselor to communicate interpersonal warmth and closeness to the counselee , that he is available for communication (b ) With Libby in mind how would you show empathic understanding (Use specific examples
