The areas that are included are all work related such as recruitment , hiring , appraisals , promotions , training , bonuses and compensation and any disciplinary action
Heath Related Discrimination
People with disabilities are among a high fraction of individuals who have been discriminated in various work related areas . The employer here need to understand that if the company makes some effort in accommodating the individual then both the company as well as the individual can be benefited . After all people with disabilities are also human beings and do deserve to make a learning in the areas they like According to a Ceridian 's article "Disability ? It 's estimated that seven to 10 percent of the population has a disability of some sort . And this is sure to increase as the population ages . In 2005 , 19 percent of discrimination cases were attributed to employees who felt treated unfairly because of a disability " The figures were taken from another article by Management Issues . The article by Community Options Inc emphasizes on some keys areas to be worked on by the employer so that discrimination can be avoided . They are as follows
Career Planning . The employers need to see that equal opportunities are given similar to other employees . The employer needs to help the individual in achieving the employee 's career aspirations
Team Building . Employees with disabilities need to be given an opportunity to show their leadership skills and should ensure that they get occasions to go on off site projects , have traveling assignments and get to lead a team for projects
Networking . The employer needs to give the employee the chance to enjoy social interactions and recreational activities just like the other employees
Mentoring . Mentoring gives an opportunity for individuals to get motivated or to motivate others . They need to be trained on management skills and need to broaden their horizons
Performance Appraisals . Helps an individual to better himself /herself therefore it has to be a fair and just process
Training . Training classes should be conducted for them . Special arrangements for people with disabilities need to be adopted such as the use of interpreters , large prints , etc
Self-Development . The employee needs to develop his or her soft skills technical skills and management skills...
