The Presidency

The United States is essentially a democratic republic , which consists of 50 states united under a Federal Government . Our country 's Government is set up under the check and balance system , which is the key stone of current government operation . The Federal Government was purposefully divided into three branches : Judicial , Legislative and Executive . Each of the three branches carries out a different role within US government , and no single branch can ever override the other two . This concept of separation of powers creates a system where no one particular individual may gain

The Executive branch , even though it can be called the most important one in view of equal distribution of power within the system , is very important within the Government . The Executive branch consists of the President , who is the Chief Executive , the Vice President and the Cabinet . The President of the United States has to be a natural citizen of this country , has to be at least 35 years of age and has to have resided in this country for at least 14 consecutive years

It is hard to definite the role of the President of the United States in one word . A Presidential post is a combination of functions and is not exactly like any other nation 's governor . As the Congress puts in its publication

The American President has been compared to an elective monarch , but there are few kings or queens today who exercise the same degree of authority as does the President of the United States . The President simultaneously serves to perform functions that parallel the activities of a king or queen in a monarchy and the prime minister or premier in a parliamentary democracy

The President is traditionally accorded the unofficial designation Chief of State ' a position which most closely parallels that of a king or queen in a monarchy . The role of the President of the United States is as complex as his definition . Even though he has the power to veto the bill passed by the Congress , he cannot act on his own accord either and needs to be in agreement with the other two branches of the Government Judicial and Legislative . The President acts as a Commander in Chief of the United States Army and has the power to declare a war and direct the Army in case of a conflict . The President is not part of a legislative body does not take part in Congressional sessions and bill passing . He is not involved with the judicial body either , but does have the right to pardon

The President also does not act alone , as the sole representative the Executive Branch . The Vice-President of the United States is an important part of this branch as well . The Vice-President is ultimately the next person in command if the President , for whatever reason , is unable to...
