South Africa is a country rich in resources such as gold and diamond But aside from these riches , South Africa is also rich in people and culture . Majority of the people in South Africa is composed of the Blacks . These people , although they are the majority , have been living in poverty for quite a time . But their culture is simply the strongest since it is still surviving up to now , even when the Blacks have led

urbanized lives . These people either speak English and /or Afrikaans Aside from the Blacks , there are also Whites in South Africa , they compose the minority . These people lived like the way people in North America , Australia , and Western Europe . These people often study and work abroad , so as to find their greener pastures . Aside from the Blacks and Whites , there are also Asians , particularly from India . These people preserved their own tradition , religion and language . These people speak English and Hindu

The groups of people named above can be race . But what does race means As defined by Wikipedia .com , race refers to the concept of dividing people into populations or groups on the basis of various sets of characteristics , usually visible traits such as skin color , facial features , hair texture and color . But usually , race and ethnicity are used interchangeably . But there is a clear difference . Ethnicity or ethnic group , as defined by Wikipedia .com , is a group of human beings whose members identify usually with each other , usually on the basis of a presumed common genealogy or ancestry . The difference in ethnicity and race lies in two concepts . Race is based on physical features , while ethnicity is based on ancestry

Let 's focus our attention on the majority of the population in South Africa , the Blacks . The Blacks have experienced great discrimination throughout the history of South Africa . But the greatest discrimination that the Blacks have experienced in their history is the Apartheid . What is this apartheid ? Apartheid was a system of racial segregation enforced by the National Party South African government from 1948 to 1994 Apartheid started from the history of settler rule and the colonialism of the Dutch and British . That colonialism and settler rule became the policies of the government of South Africa after it had gained its self-governance as a dominion of the British Empire and these are expanded and formalized to become a system of legalized racism and white nationalism in 1948

Apartheid legislation classified inhabitants and visitors into racial groups . The groups are as follows : Whites , Blacks , Colored , and Asian Under Apartheid , the Blacks suffered stripping of their citizenship . The Apartheid government segregated education , medical care , and other public services with inferior standards for the Blacks . There was even a point wherein the Blacks were not allowed to go to certain beaches for vacation .
