Basing on my consideration i definitely support the idea that the porter 's forces model is inadequate for analysis of international aspects . First , we have to look at the formulation of the model and its link to the Marshallian premise of constant return to scale . The model utilizes the concepts formulated in industrial organization economics in to derive five forces which influence the competitive magnitude and hence the attractiveness or the cohesion of a market structure . Cohesion of a market refers to the overall profitability of the industry . On the other hand , an unattractive industry is a case where the combined effort of the existing forces acts as to deteriorate the overall profitability of the industry . This type of industry is said to be approaching state of pure competition

Porter in his analysis refers to all these forces as micro-environment in contrast to a more generally described term , macro-environment .
