Factors that produce changes in the population size are due to habitat food supply , freedom from predators and ability to adopt . These four factors have an alarming effect on Nutria 's population . Nutria (Myocastor coypu ) is the second largest aquatic rodents on earth , and is a native of South America . Its ability to adopt easily and get established to its new habitat is so amazing that it grows and spread rapidly throughout wetlands states . Its being productive resulted in overpopulation . When the availability of food supply in areas where they become established will

no longer satisfy them , their instinct is to move into other places . When this happens , they tend to destroy valuable vegetation of the native wildlife on that area and that 's where the trouble starts all over again . Nutria by nature is vegetarians They feed on the roots and stems of marsh vegetation . This feeding behavior causes a plant not to survive after being eaten by Nutria and this causes the marsh loss due to their feeding and digging characteristics of all types of vegetation . One of the reasons of Nutria 's overabundance in population aside their being prolific , is because there are few predators around . A predator is considered a major limiting factor on the growth rate of any prey population . On the other hand a prey population will also limit the size of the predator population that is if they are the main source of their food . So all of these factors contributed to the overly populated Nutria and this will continue to grow if we will not come up with a good solution . If no proper action will be implemented , all the marshes will die this will result to an unbalance ecosystem . In conclusion , the rapid increase of the population of Nutria , may result the same problem to other places where they will migrate , we need to develop an economic strategies where we can use the Nutria as a primary source of product . For example implement a proper and humane fur industry , and making a good food product industry out from Nutria 's meat . Anyway Nutria is a herbivore and eating them will not bring side effects...
