Costa Rica was occupied between 12 ,000 and 8 ,000 B .C . by early settlers It 's inhabited by a landscape dominated by tropical forests . By 8000 and 4000 BC those early inhabitants become sedentary . They somehow learned to domesticate plants . The transition to farming was a slow process that extended between 4000 and 1000 years BC . Its position on the Isthmus made it a meeting place of North and South American cultural current

through John Kioyd Stephens started its coffee industry which soon was stimulated by high prices that prevailed throughout the nineteenth century , despite short periods of crisis From 1830 onwards young peasant couples set off to conquer Virgin lands The western portion of central valley . Coffee was planted in their pioneering footsteps from 1860 onwards . By 1930 coffee was an injection of progress into the social and economic life of Costa Rica . This allowed rapid economic development in Costa Rica . Between 1929 and 1932 , the value of exports fell from 18 to 8 million dollars . In 1933 the institute for the defense of coffee was created to regulate volitions between farmers and Merchants . In 1978 Costa Rica could boost social indicators far better than those of most third world countries Costa Rica found the organization of American states together with other states

Climate has affected Costa Rica both positively and negatively . The fact that temperatures rise high at times and very low , m9ost of the times , makes the country to invest a lot of resources in trying to regulate temperatures for instance in trying to maintain the agricultural sector , Costa Rica often is faced with an economic problem because it has to buy more genetically modified foods . More to that it has to important agricultural products that have been modified by scientist elsewhere in to fit its cold climate . Migration and reproduction is another factor affecting Costa Rica due to global warming . This is not only affecting the people 's natural inhabitants but also to a large extent . It 's affecting the daily economic running . This is because the change in climate is already responsible for the extension of over 110 species of frogs ' That means human being are shifting to such better standards of living which lowers rate of productivity . On the other hand , natural species are dying bringing tourism sector to an end of not lowering the income earned from the sector
