It has length of 464 kilometers (258 miles ) and its width at the broadest point between the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea is 274 kilometers approximately 170 miles . 1 ,016 kilometers about 630 miles compared to 212 kilometers about 130 miles on the Caribbean . It has three major harbors on the pacific side , punt arenas , quepos and gotito but only one Puerto limon on the Caribbean

It is a tropical country meaning that the usual idea of heat as implied by that term is exaggerated .
