Application of community policing has not had the full desired effects in most areas . This is especially so in poor neighborhood where police citizen relationship remains estranged . The Broken Windows Theory of crime by G . Kelling and J Wilson states that dis in society leads to crime prevalence . To explain it the criminologists argued that when a broken window remains in disrepair , it encourages people to shatter more windows since it seems like nobody is on guarding . The destruction will then overflow beyond the house to the adjacent area and finally the neighborhood . A trashy neighborhood and a state of general unkemptness would have the same effects People feel that they can get away with anything . A properly maintained building or neighborhood depicts a picture of good management and presence of authority . Dis also makes residents feel more insecure and become more timid . In crime control today , the community members should be encouraged to maintain their neighborhoods and hours in to deter potential criminals especially the youthful mobs . This sends a clear message to rowdy youths that any misbehavior will not be condemned in the area . The police and community should organize clean ups and rehabilitations in crime prone neighborhood to reduce crime .
