qualify for training to be a security officer , one is required to be above eighteen years of age , should have no convictions of violence or perjury and should have education or formal training on a related field . The recruitment process for police officers is however more complicated . To qualify for training to be a police officer , one is required to be twenty years and six months when taking the entrance exam and a maximum age of 45 when entering the police academy . The recruit is required to have a minimum of a high school diploma or G .E .D inclusive of 12 college hours . It is also mandatory to be a United States citizen at the time of application . After meeting the minimum requirements , then one has to wait for a certain period of time to be considered .
