For a long period especially in the 1960s , the public lacking confidence in the policing models which were being employed . During this period , a professional form of policing model was being used which made the public view the police as being ineffectual as well as ineffective Failure of the professional models to meet the need of the communities led to the need for formulation of different strategies . Currently there are two policing strategies in use namely the

community oriented policing and the problem oriented policing . These two approaches to policing are related with some people using them interchangeably However , these two concepts are different but not incompatible and neither are they in competition .
