The police force is one of the most important government institutions that ensure peaceful coexistence of individuals in the society . The police force is mandated to ensure that the rights and freedoms of individuals are not infringed with by other members of the society Therefore , the police force ensure that individuals enjoy their rights and freedoms but in a way that they don 't interfere with the rights and freedoms of other people . In to carry

out their mandated roles the police are given official power over the rest of the members of the society . This power is to ensure that they have a control factor which they can use to make others follow stipulated laws . However , this does not mean that the police are mandated to conduct their duties in unregulated manner . There are several incidences where the police force has acted out of their code of conduct . For example , police officers have been known to use force while dealing with public while others have solicited bribes to offer protection to the citizens . This is considered a deviance from the expected code of conduct of police officers . Like other member in the society , they can be asked to justify and account for their actions in regard to legal and fiscal obligations , policy goals and the objectives of policing .
