The Convergence Of The Twain : Thomas Hardy

The poem is about the ship Titanic . The poet creates a picture how finally the ship lies dormant at the edge of the iceberg , all its activities and commotion coming to an end . It is `peace a last ' for the ship and the thousands of passengers in it ! The final convergence for the ship , beyond which it has nothing ! The poet creates a grim picture of the ship resting at the bottom of the ocean . The ship and the iceberg meet their

common destiny the later is the immediate cause for the doomed fate of the ship . The ship meets is doomsday at the most unsuspected moment , all its beauty and the technical supremacy of the men who created it , is humbled

Use of personification in the last five stanzas is the hallmark of the poem . The poet refers to the grace , stature and hue which indicate that the ship had tremendous confidence over its mastery to tackle the rough waves of the sea . The sea can do no harm to her and the ship is unsinkable . Such was the pride and vanity of the ship . Irony is the other literary technique employed by the poet . The word "jar " could be the news filtering through and the families being devastated , and also human pride being jarred because of those proud to see the ship leave and those waiting for it to arrive gloriously (The Convergence ) The poem has many references to death . There are eleven stanzas to the poem , with three lines per stanza-both indicative of incompletion . The word pyres ' refers to nothing but death . The words , Immanent Will ' refer to fate and destiny . How the thought processes might have changed from the time the captain , crew and the passengers of the ship knew that it was the lost game , till the game was actually over ! They saw death advancing step by step and perhaps their vanity melting gradually and for ever

Title : Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening : Robert Frost

The surface meaning of the poem is beautifully evocative . Pain is involved in the seemingly pleasurable lines of the poem . Sixteen lines in four stanzas take one to the world of Natural beauty , with the earthy reality ! The sleep /death metaphor creates a private world of melancholy

Formwise , note the predominance of soft , sibilant sounds , evoking the 'sweep of easy wind and downy flake...
