THE ROAD NOT TAKEN BY ROBERT FROST AND FERN HILL BY DYLAN THOMAS ADRIENNE JANOWIAK ENGLISH 1B Robert Frost was an American poet who was a highly respect and known poet of his time and even now he is regarded as one of the best poets of America . His poem The Road Not Taken ' is a highly acclaimed poem . It starts with a solitary traveller who is walking in the woods . At one point of his travelling he comes to such a point where two roads are making

a fork . Now at this point he is a little perplexed and confused as to which road he must take . After much deliberation he comes to conclusion that he will take the road , which has been less travelled . A number of scholars have tried to apply this poem 's situation to the life of a person who sometimes comes to such a point that he has only two choices presented to him and he is only allowed to take one of the choices . Now it depends upon his sense of decision that he makes the right choice . However like the road he has no point of returning . One taken the road and travelling on it he is not supposed to return . In the same way after taking the decision he will have to stick to his decision
The rhyme used by Frost in the poem `Road Not Taken ' is of ABABB , CDCCD scheme . The whole poem gets the repeat ion of this scheme of rhyme . In each stanza he has used repletion . Alliteration is also used in the poem like the `w ' sound in `was ' in stanza 2 and the `th ' sound in `though as for ' etc . Due to all these repetition the flow of the poem has become very nice and attractive to read
The theme of the poem is a little bit complex but it touches the heart of everyone who reads the poem . Frost is a master crafter of giving the readers a very simple surrounding and transmitting a very simple feeling . With this kind of poetry he is able to give a bigger message First he moves the readers and then it looks as if he is also moving with them . In the poem `The Road Not Taken ' he told us about a man who is going to make a choice . He has only two options and he has to take one of them . In our ordinary lives we encounter such situation where there are two roads , or in other words Frost is telling about two choices . At the fork the man is uncertain as to which road he should take . In real life we also come across such points where we are stranded and we become confused and lack the decision power . Here the fork is a symbol of the lack of decision power , which we have in ourselves Apparently this looks a very trivial decision in the poem but some times we make a small wrong...
