Poetry Essay
In the poem ``Vigil Strange I Kept on the Field one Night ' by Walt
Whitman , the author gives his view on what a war is about but does not
give any comment or stand about a particular war . He emphasizes the
things that may happen or that is really happening in a war . A war could
bring strange things such defeat or even worse like death . How a soldier
would feel upon losing someone that is very important in his life and on
what they must or should do when a worst thing hits them . All things
that are unexpected to happen could likely be real in war .
Obviously , the setting of the poem is a cold night in a battle-field ,
where war is on its peak . The speaker would be alone grieving for the
death of a boy that he treated as his son or is really his son . I can
imagine how the speaker feels mourning alone for the death of the boy in
a place where no one is around to give him comfort and affection .
It appears that the speaker in the poem has a vague relationship with
the person who dies . The author does not give a clear connection on what
the two cast lists are . When you read the poem , you would first think
that they are father and son that is contradicted with the phrase ``my
comrade ' and ``my soldier ' that the speaker address to the boy . With
the words that the speaker used to describe his relationship to the boy
it can only be concluded that the boy on the poem is of great importance
to the speaker . That upon his lost would hurt the speaker and would make
it grieve . The boy would have been the savior of the speaker in times of
his needs or disaster . With the writer 's great writing techniques , he
makes his reader think that his subject was tackling on two different
persons which is merely only one .
Whitman clearly demonstrates how the speaker of the poem reacts upon
the death of the young boy . But the speaker had no place to show how
much he grieves for the lost of his beloved son /comrade /soldier ADDIN

finally accept the death of the boy that at daybreak he must bury it in
the place where he fell and continue to face the morning as a soldier on
his own . He still manages to face the reality even though he lost his
only source of hope . Despite the fact that it is hard for him to leave
alone without the same old person that he used to be with , he still
stand on his feet hoping that there will be a new beginning awaiting for
him .
It 's remarkable how Whitman fits all the words and...
