Poetry The main difference between the works is the meaning of daffodils and mood . In the journal entry , `daffodil ' symbolizes happiness , joy and admiration as one of the amazing things in nature . It seems that the author admires the scenery exclaiming : I never saw daffodils so beautiful . It creates atmosphere of joy and delight . In contrast , the poem depicts that a daffodil is a symbol of solitude , hope and fate . In the journal entry `a daffodil ' symbolizes nature and eternal beauty while in the poem it is used as a symbol to

describe deep personal feelings and life experience of a human . A `daffodil ' is a symbol of future and hopes , dreams and positive feelings which can be compared with a host , of golden daffodils . In the journal entry the beauty is depicted and enhanced by the poet 's rendering of delicate expressions that come together to form a beautiful composition of nature at its best
The other difference is the use of language and poetic devices . In the journal entry , the language and vocabulary is simpler and more vivid than in the poem . This makes an effect of smoothness and impartiality and the abundance of image-bearing epithets contributes to the vividness of narration and objectivity . In contrast , long , syntactically complicated structures create the atmosphere of solemnity and sophistication . In the journal entry , personification concerns only `daffodils ' while in the poem the author uses personification for waves ' and a `heart : my / dances with the daffodils . The author uses different types of metaphors in the works : complex (multi-layered ) metaphor is used in the journal entry : some rested their heads upon these stones as on a pillow for weariness . In contrast , the poem consists of simple metaphors and metaphoric epithet `the margin of a bay . In the journal entry there is no simile while in the poem the author uses several similes : `as a cloud , `as the stars In spite of apparent similarity , the author uses different stylistic devices and language means which help to create a special atmosphere meaning and mood in both works
