Tao Qian (also known as T 'ao Ch 'ien or Tao Yuanming ) was one of the early Chinese poets who were able to capture the essence of the various situations or instances during his time in his literary works . Tao Qian lived to see the conflict between the six dynasties in China which was the source of all confusion and destruction that threatened to break China and its people apart . Everything then was in chaos , and the people struggled

to survive despite the war that is plaguing the country into its destruction . It was Tao Qian 's idealism mixed with his real-life experiences during the war between the six dynasties that solidified his writing style as a Chinese poet . This mix between idealism and realism was the main theme in his literary works - that is , tackling famine and poverty as brought on by the war , but also the simple joys and serenity that he finds in such situations (Tian , 132-136 ) This establishes various perceptions that the particular theme that Tao Qian came across in his poetry was the theme of hope : the hope of the war ending for the sake of those who have survived the turmoil , and the hope that after the war , there will be peace and serenity
