I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud

William Wordsworth was one of the greatest poets during his time . He has written descriptive poetries that vividly expressed his true feelings and emotions . In this poetry , I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud he illustrated his powerful feelings through the continuous flow of symbolic words and metaphors

As may be seen in lines one and two of the first stanza , the poet was lonely in the beginning , which he showed through the use of the figure of speech

. The first and second lines are in the form of simile wherein the poet is compared to a cloud , which is most of the time alone in the sky and moves along with the wind . As the poem moves along , we will find that gradually the poet becomes happy . There is a transition from loneliness to happiness or glee

This is illustrated through the use of metaphors from the fourth line of the first stanza to the second line of the third stanza where the poet saw a vision of thousands of dancing daffodils , which is then used as an expression of happiness . The lines stated

continuous as the stars that shine

And twinkle on the milky way

They stretched in never-ending line (Wordsworth

This may be considered as symbolization of happiness or bliss that is overflowing , limitless or cannot be contained - happiness that sees past everything
