Introduction

Instructional units are devised as short term training sessions which are focused on relatively narrow subject matter . In order to select and formulate the appropriate instructional unit , it is important to

br consider the needs of target population to be served . For example , if groups of college students regularly voice the fact that they are stressed during exam periods , it is essential for progressive instructors to develop adequate relaxation training sessions which meet the needs of the students . After assessing the needs of the student population , it is important to reflect upon the most suitable instructional design model as a conceptual framework upon which to build the instructional unit . It is also important to consider the setting participants , objectives , strategies , content , and evaluation of the proposed unit , so that the training session is developed in a robust and purposeful manner . A valuable instructional unit for students would be one which focuses on relaxation techniques , focusing on the ways in which people can be helped to tolerate distressing feelings and build up self confidence in order to accomplish goals (Davis , Eshelman McKay 2008 .
