that as if it is his /her own idea /words . The issue of plagiarisms is a bit complicated as if another person 's ideas or words are being utilized then appropriate references and representation has to be made . Plagiarism can be accidental as well as purposive . Once of the best methods of avoiding plagiarism is give appropriate information of the details from where the data within the work is coming from . This can be in the form of bibliography , courtesy notes , references , in-text citations , quotes etc . Most of the universities , colleges and schools of developed universities require that the students appropriately give the details of the source along with the credentials of the creator . This ensures that the work presented by the student is more validated (Dowshen , 2008 The Writing Lab the OWL at Purdue and Purdue University , 2008

There are several regarding plagiarism . These include :-

Direct duplication of others work by directly copying and pasting - According to me this is the most serious form of academic dishonesty as the student is passing off some other person 's work as his own and is claiming that person 's ideas and words to be his own . No amount of creative efforts , expression of one 's own ideas , judgment , skill , etc are spending . Even if a completion is made with some amount of skill and experience , and if it is arranged in a particular manner , it needs to be appreciated for the efforts of the creator

Paraphrasing others work , by including only minor changes , and keeping the same meaning , not including own ideas /words , or not changing the basic flow of ideas of the original author

Combining the works of other people so as to present as a new work

Presenting a work as one 's own , when in fact done in partnership with others

Claiming credentials for a work that is greater than actually given

Any work in which not enough skill , experience , competency , judgment etc are spend (which are the factors that add to the originality of the work (The University of NSW , 2005

Paraphrasing may not be regarded as plagiarism if done in an appropriate manner . If the owner adds his /her own ideas along with the idea of the original author in his /her own words , and then the paraphrasing would be legal .
