Enlightenment and post-Enlightenment philosophies have imposed epistemological limitations through the introduction of and insistence on methodological naturalism , the confluence of natural philosophy and the scientific method . The element of natural philosophy that endows methodological naturalism is the belief that nature is the only reality therefore , any valid knowledge must be informed by evidence from nature The consequences of this view have been the denial of the supernatural and rejection of revelation and the existence of God . The introduction and use of this philosophy in scientific inquiry is methodological naturalism . The epistemology

of nature-only reality has become dominant in Western thought , forming the foundation of what is perceived as modern intellectualism , actually an ascent to atheism and a rejection of the supernatural . When the Enlightenment philosophers made a commitment to an epistemological paradigm based on nature-only reality , they did so with what little they knew about reality however , the philosophical commitment to nature-only reality is no longer tenable in light of Big Bang theory . In a few pages , I would like to put forward the proof of an external world - a reality other than nature . If this comes as a surprise to the modern intellectual , it may due to ignorance or denial The facts to be presented should be sufficient to put the atheist in a realm of perpetual intellectual discomfort
