Many jazz artist emerged during the widespread of the music but only few were recognized to be the best contributors of jazz . The cornet playing artist , Louis Armstrong is considered to be the most famous musician in jazz history . His first formal lesson in music started out when he stayed in the reform school after he was arrested because he fired a pistol in the air . This is also where he got his first cornet but he learned to use the trumpet later on as well . Armstrong spoke highly about the diversity and vitality of his hometown streets where his influence rooted but his battle for poverty led him to left his hometown . Louis ' strong desire to become a musician led him to his popularity . He is the pioneer of the scat singing , the forerunner of the jazz solo and was noted for transforming music to high art because of his masterful solo lines and innovations ( Louis Armstrong : The man the Musician , the Celebrity . Much like Louis Armstrong another jazz artist who influenced millions with his music is Duke Ellington Although Ellington was a gifted piano player , he was noted for using his orchestra as his primary instrument . He is not only a musician but also a composer and arranger . Duke 's first musical influence was his mother whom he first heard playing a popular piano tune called the rosary at the age of 7 he began playing the piano ( Duke Ellington 's early years . Just like Armstrong , Ellington became a member of different bands only that he was addressed as the maestro . The use of Jazz Suites format made Duke Ellington a music genius . The Jazz suite format gave his work an empowering meaning for the African-American music ( About Duke Ellington . Ellington 's orchestra was able to step into the transition of jazz music unlike any of their contemporaries . From the Hot Jazz music of the 1920 's , the orchestra was able to adapt in Swing music during 1930 's , making it a major force in the Jazz . Although Louis Armstrong managed to maintain his career , only Ellington was able to penetrate and lead until the forties and the fifties...
