1 .0 INTRODUCTION

The American magazine Contemporary Review in 1936 mentioned , The sanitation of Makkah and Medina was as defective as it possibly could be . Water was scarce and there were no hospitals or good qualified doctors to be found . and so mortality was very high among the pilgrims and citizens alike ' The situation changed after four decades of consistent development by Saudi government . The government setup new health facilities and network of hospitals for its citizens , which has led to overcome the traditional diseases such as malaria , smallpox , and cholera , which drastically reduced the life expectancy in 1970s . During the early development of health plan in 1970s , the Saudi Health care system paid more emphasis on establishing the necessary healthcare infrastructure , which included clinics , pharmacies and hospitals in nearby towns and cities , this shift converted the traditional villages into settlement and towns . Many of the Bedouins tribes moved to nearby cities to work and became part of the growing urban population

Saudi Arabia is experiencing now a vast and mass development in the society and every other aspect concerning the people and their life styles . Saudi Arabia is regarded one of the largest countries in the Middle East , due to its large size , different geographical patterns and rapidly growing population . These factors are influencing the appearance of new diseases associated with this new-changed urban life style

1 .2 OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY

The study will look at the factors , which contributes to the spread of new diseases , such as diabetics , obesity and tension , depression and heart related diseases . The study is essential in Saudi Arabia because primary health centers and school health departments provide health services to a large segment of the Saudi community

The drugs used and prescribed in the primary health centers and school health department in Saudi Arabia has not been reviewed in a scientific field study before to asses if Saudi Health care system is ready to cope with this new merging diseases in wake of this new urbanisation
